Khaplu fort is an ancient fort and palace situated in Khaplu, in northern Pakistan's Gilgit-Baltistan region. In the mid-19th century, the palace, considered an architectural heritage and a tourist attraction, was built, replacing an earlier fort nearby. It served as a royal residence for Khaplu's Raja.
Only a few miles east of Skardu, Khaplu is a lovely village with picturesque terraced fields rising all kinds of crops. Khaplu was once a kingdom that was prominent and prosperous, and Khaplu Palace was once the local ruler's residential fort. The Aga Khan recently expressed interest in the palace, which has now been converted into an elegant hotel to house our guests.Virgin Holidays praised the rescue and reconstruction work of the palace for having social and economic impact on the locals of the area. In 2012, the palace received the Virgin Holidays Responsible Tourism Award as the best project in the category of 'Poverty Reduction'.In 2013, the palace was awarded the UNESCO Asia Pacific Heritage Awards Award for Distinction.
The famous drama serial Dayar-e-Dil was shot at Khaplu fort.
