Because of its landscape similarities and similarity in scenic beauty with Switzerland, the British Queen Elizabeth II called Swat "Switzerland of the East (Pakistan/Asia)" during her visit to Swat in 1961. In addition, the Swat Valley has a beautiful climate, which is why locals and visitors call it "a paradise on earth."

  Khaplu fort is an ancient fort and palace situated in Khaplu, in northern Pakistan's Gilgit-Baltistan region.
