K2 is the second highest mountain in the world, at 8,611 meters (28,251 ft) above sea level, after Mount Everest, at 8,848 meters (29,029 ft). It is located on the China-Pakistan border between Baltistan in northern Pakistan's Gilgit-Baltistan region, and Dafdar Township in Xinjiang, China's Taxkorgan Tajik Autonomous County.K2 is the highest point of the Karakoram mountain range .

  Khaplu fort is an ancient fort and palace situated in Khaplu, in northern Pakistan's Gilgit-Baltistan region. In the mid-19th century, the palace, considered an architectural heritage and a tourist attraction, was built, replacing an earlier fort nearby. It served as a royal residence for Khaplu's Raja.
